A Different Kind of “Green Tree”

Staff members at the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center at the University of Nevada, Reno have erected a holiday book tree made entirely of recycled books. The structure is the largest book tree ever built, at 14 feet tall, according to research done by the Knowledge Center librarians. “Last year, we used 347 books. This year we used 600,” said Alden Kamaunu, manager of the center’s operations. The base of the tree comprises 12 books placed in a circle, and the entire structure is estimated to weigh nearly 600 pounds.
