Library Design Showcase
Little Hot Mama
Vaudeville stage star Flossie Turner Lewis records voiceovers at Syracuse (N.Y.) University Library's Belfer Audio Archive as guest-host for the library's upcoming radio show Sound Beat set to launch in early 2011. The show will feaure 90-second modules highlighting Belfer's most interesting and unique recordings. Vaudeville audiences knew Lewis, now 77, as Little Hot Mama when she performed with her family, the Turner Family Revue, beginning as a two year old in 1935. She is co-author, with Syracuse University's Paula Meseroll, of Little Hot Mama: The Flossie Turner Lewis Story (Stay Thirsty, 2010). Fifty cents of every book sold is donated to ProLiteracy in Turner's name to support adult literacy.
