#ala12 Top Ten (ha!) Tweets - Day 4 (Monday): Mad Love edition

Monday’s top tweets (once again, we couldn’t manage to pick just 10) have an end-of-summer-camp flavor. Librarians are already reflecting on the four days of planned and chance meetings, sessions and networking, work and fun. Veteran journalist and newscaster Dan Rather provided a little taste of the stories in his new book Rather Outspoken: My Life in the News at the Monday Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends, and Foundations’ President’s Program, and warned of the increasing “dumbing down and trivialization” of the news.

At the Annual Conference Closing Session on Tuesday, outgoing ALA President Molly Raphael gave a heartfelt summary of her past presidential year. Previous presidents have had to deal with filtering or the USA Patriot Act, she said, but for her the focal points were e-content challenges and school library closings.

One highlight at the ALA PopTop Stage on Monday was the debut performance of the 817’s (for you Dewey-challenged folk, that’s “American humor and satire”), a comedy troupe consisting of Stand-Up Librarian Meredith Myers, MLIS of Fortune (and singer) Danica Sheridan, and RUSA’s own Mr. Reference, Dave Tyckoson.
