December 1 Terri Stano became director of Thayer Public Library in Braintree, Massachusetts.

November 14 Linda Mielke became director of James Prendergast Library Association and the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System in Jamestown, New York

In January Yijun Gao will become assistant professor at Dominican University's Graduate School of Library and Information Science in River Forest, Illinois.

Michelle A. Visel, 64, former conference director for the American Library Association for 20 years, died November 17.

November 30 Diane Foote became assistant dean of Dominican University's Graduate School of Library and Information Science in River Forest, Illinois.

William Williamson, 91, professor of Library Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1966 until his retirement in 1987, died November 19. He had previously served in librarian positions at Baylor University in Waco, Texas; Montclair (N.J.) State College, and Columbia University in New York.

In December Carol Shama retires as director of Wood Library in Canandaigua, New York.

November 15 Marcia Smith-Woodard, who serves as special services consultant at Indiana State Library, was award the Indiana Library Federation's 2011 Special Services Award. The award recognizes exceptional contributions or services which strengthen library services in a local community, school, or across the state.

November 17 Hwa-Wei Lee, dean emeritus of Ohio University Libraries in Athens, was honored for lifetime achievement in the rebuilding of libraries in China since the early 1980s and for his continuing efforts in promoting US–China library cooperation at the “Symposium on the Library Scholarship and Thoughts of Dr. Hwa-Wei Lee” held in Shenzhen, China, on November 17, 2011.
