Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Dubuque 2.0, the Dubuque Arts Council and the Friends of the Carnegie-Stout Public Library, Dubuquers of all ages will be treated to a spectacular visual and participatory show featuring Las Vegas magician Kevin Barnes on November 11 when he returns home to his native Iowa. Environmental conservation is the driving force behind all of Barnes’ magic tricks, in which he weaves information on recycling, renewable energy, and natural resources.

“The message that Kevin Barnes communicates through his performance is timely and important.” says Youth Services Manager Danielle Day.

Barnes’ magic show includes restoring newspapers and making paper trees grow and water replenish itself in a sand bucket—all before the audience’s eyes.

It was in 1991 that Barnes began to develop his “green” show, teaming up with his brother, a wilderness center naturalist.

Fast forward to November 13 when the excitement will continue as the library hosts well-known author/educator and Chasing4Life founder Eddy Weiss whose vision is to change the way America views the issue of natural disaster preparedness. Weiss will educate the audience on everything they need to know about hurricanes and take a look at some of the most horrific hurricanes in American history.

If I lived in Dubuque, I’d know where I’d be on these dates!
