CHICAGONathan Fillion, star of the ABC series, Castle, joins the ALA Graphics READ Campaign. The Canadian-born actor secured a cult following for his work with Joss Whedon on the series “Firefly,” its film adaptation “Serenity” and the Internet sensation, “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.” His role in the 2007 romantic comedy “Waitress” will be followed by his part as The Holy Avenger in the movie “Super.”

Fillion’s parents, both retired English teachers, instilled in him the importance of literacy, leading Nathan to found, along with with friend and author PJ Haarsma, the non-profit organization Kids Need to Read. The Foundation encourages literacy and social responsibility through its gifts of inspiring books to schools, libraries and literacy programs serving disadvantaged children.

“We’re thrilled to have Nathan Fillion on our latest READ poster. He’s shown great dedication to engaging young readers with exciting books,” said Rachel Johnson, director of ALA Graphics. “Word of the poster’s debut traveled fast, and members, particularly YA librarians, are clamoring for it.”
