CHICAGO – From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. CDT on May 18, the Public Library Association (PLA) will host a live, extended webinar, “Transforming Our Image,” as part of the PLA “Public Libraries at Work” monthly webinar series. The webinar will have two parts: “No Explanation Needed: The Three Pillars Philosophy";and “Implementing the Vision.”
Based on instructor Valerie Gross’ award-winning article, “Transforming Our Image through Words that Work: Perception is Everything,” (Public Libraries, PLA/ALA, Vol. 48, No. 5, Sept./Oct. 2009, p. 24-32), this webinar will describe a straightforward concept that enables libraries to heighten their importance by replacing traditional terms with powerful, intuitive, value-enhanced terminology that people understand. Join in to learn how strategic vocabulary can immediately convey the library’s true value —even to someone who has never set foot in a library.
Gross presented the original “Transforming Our Image” in November 2010. Previous participants will find this updated webinar relevant and helpful with its addition of direction to put this library-changing concept into practice.
At the conclusion of the webinar, participants will have gained the skills and confidence to redefine libraries in a new, innovative way; align the library with what the community values most - education; heighten the library's visibility and stature; develop strategies that can immediately be integrated; introduce the philosophy and strategic vocabulary concepts to staff, Board, elected officials, Friends/Foundation Board, customers, community and the media.
Registration is now open. Cost to attend the extended “Transforming Our Image” webinar is $28 (PLA Members), $31.50 (ALA Members) and $35 (Nonmembers). Groups of any size can register for $129. The deadline to register is 4:30 p.m. CDT on May 16.
