Gail Schlachter Hauser, 72, died suddenly April 27. She was active in ALA over 50 years, serving on the ALA Executive Board and the Publishing Committee. After a decade as an academic librarian, she started Reference Service Press to publish financial aid guides, including the Directory of Financial Aids for Women and the Directory of Financial Aids for Minorities. Schlachter was named the University of Wisconsin SLIS Distinguished Alumna of the Year in 2007, received RUSA’s Isadore Gilbert Mudge Award for Distinguished Service to Reference Librarianship in 1992, and received numerous awards for her writing and reference works. Two ALA awards funded by Reference Service Press have awarded more than $150,000 to more than 50 library school students.
