Jody Serrano writes that after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, German historian Sebastian Majstorovic recognized the threat to Ukrainian knowledge and cultural heritage. In collaboration with Anna Kijas, head of the Lilly Music Library at Tufts University, and Quinn Dombrowski, academic technology specialist at Stanford University, he launched launched the Saving Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Online initiative, which has so far created digital backups of almost 20 terabytes of data from more than 2,700 Ukrainian museums, libraries, and archives. Among the efforts success was downloading the full website of the State Archive of Kharkiv, which went offline shortly after they retrieved it on March 2 and 3.
