On February 8, the US government formalized its ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty by depositing the US instrument of ratification with the World Intellectual Property Organization. This action begins a 90-day waiting period, after which the treaty will officially be in force as US policy, throwing open the doors to expanded literacy for the blind of America and the world. The Treaty was adopted on June 27, 2013, at a diplomatic conference organized by WIPO in Marrakesh, Morocco. The treaty entered into force on September 30, 2016, three months after it gained the necessary 20 ratifications or accessions by WIPO members.
