Toronto (Ont.) Public Library, North York Central Library
Originally built in 1987, this postmodern building required renovations to bring it into the 21st century. A grand staircase now frames the building’s seven-story atrium and improves air circulation throughout. A new creation loft on the second floor includes a digital innovation lab with 3D printers, audio and video recording facilities, and a fabrication studio with sewing equipment. A new children’s department contains interactive and electronic learning stations that support preschool literacy and children with special needs.
