There’s still time for you to consider Leading to the Future, a new four-day immersive leadership development program for future library leaders—either for yourself or for someone you’d like to nominate.
The institute offers the chance to delve into leadership practices, concepts, and frameworks and to shape your own leadership vision and ethos—one that can sustain you into the future. ALA President Maureen Sullivan and ACRL Content Strategist Kathryn Deiss will help you develop and practice your leadership skills in areas critical to the future of the libraries you lead. Based on real world cases and nuanced situations, the topics you will explore will relate to the greatest challenges and opportunities for leading into a future marked by turbulence and ambiguity demanding your best. Through reflective and active learning, you’ll have the opportunity to generate a strong leadership path for yourself as well as build a network of colleagues in this learning community.
In the institute’s inaugural year, 35 mid-career librarians ready for the next step toward effective leadership will be selected based on demonstrated leadership potential, professional achievement, and community or campus involvement. Potential leaders from all types of libraries are encouraged to apply (you can nominate yourself or be nominated by your employer). Completed applications are due by May 10, 2013.
The institute takes place at the Eaglewood Resort & Spa in Itasca, Illinois, August 12–15, 2013. Participants will earn about 30 hours of continuing education contact hours. Thanks to a subsidy from ALA this first year, the total cost (including food, lodging, and materials but excluding travel) is $750 per participant.
