Leslie Burger is the American Library Association’s (ALA) new interim executive director, the Association’s Executive Board announced November 15.
Burger served as ALA president for the 2006–2007 term. She also served as executive director of Princeton (N.J.) Public Library (PPL) from 1999–2016. Currently, Burger is founding partner of Library Development Solutions, a library consulting service, in New York City and an adjunct professor of library science at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Burger secured more than $27 million during her time at PPL, according to ALA’s news release. Major projects she led include planning and securing funding for a new 55,000-square-foot facility that opened in 2004, and a renovation of PPL’s adult services department to provide additional meeting space and co-working technology.
ALA’s Executive Board is continuing its search for a permanent executive director. Former Executive Director Tracie D. Hall left ALA October 6.
