Be a Part of AL Focus’s National Library Week Videos

January 28, 2011

AL Focus is producing a series of videos to promote libraries for National Library Week 2011, and we are looking for footage from libraries around the country to help complete the project.

The videos will combine images, words, and music to provide an uplifting view of libraries, the services they provide, and the differences they can make. We're looking for contributions from libraries that show off the full breadth of library service and usage. That includes, but isn't limited to:

  • People reading, checking out books, or getting reference help
  • Storytimes
  • Discussion groups
  • Library gaming tournaments
  • People returning books
  • People using library computers
  • People exploring library exhibits or perusing library displays

In short, any library service you typically offer is fair game. We are looking more for fly-on-the-wall captures of library life, rather than people addressing or performing for the camera.

Technical issues

Clips can be submitted in any graphical format—AVI, MP4, MOV, or the like. Standard or high definition clips are acceptable. Clips should be unedited whenever possible; titles, transitions, and effects will make a clip significantly less likely to be used.

Submission instructions

Files up to 2GB can be sent via YouSendIt. Upload them using the American Libraries dropbox. Files can also be submitted on a data disc (not a playable DVD) to American Libraries, 50 E. Huron St., Chicago, IL 60611.

By submitting you are granting American Libraries the right to use your video in this video series. Libraries whose videos are used will be credited, although individuals appearing in the videos will generally not be identified.

The deadline to receive contributions is February 28.

If you have any questions or difficulties, contact Greg Landgraf at glandgraf@ala.org.
