November 17 Hwa-Wei Lee, dean emeritus of Ohio University Libraries in Athens, was honored for lifetime achievement in the rebuilding of libraries in China since the early 1980s and for his continuing efforts in promoting US–China library cooperation at the “Symposium on the Library Scholarship and Thoughts of Dr. Hwa-Wei Lee” held in Shenzhen, China, on November 17, 2011.

Jessica Nadine Hernández, librarian at the Food and Drug Administration's Biosciences Library, was the only librarian among 25 winners of the 2011 Rising Star in Government Information Technology awards given by Federal Computer Week. Hernández was nominated for recruiting a team of creative and energetic federal employees ("NewFeds") who are interested in modernizing federal libraries.

November 19 Chris Tonjes,  director of information technology officer at DC Public Library, was awarded the 2011 Golden Mouse Award by the DC-based nonprofit Byte Back. Tonjes was honored for his work in leading the partnership between the library and Byte Back to bridge the digital divide.

November 1 Armando Herrera will be honored as the San Diego Association of Fundraising Professionals' 2011 Outstanding Youth Volunteer in recognition of his work as a volunteer, advocate, fundraiser and community liaison at San Diego Public Library's Logan Heights branch.

Amy VanScoy and M. Cristina Pattuelli have been awarded 2011 Jesse H. Shera Awards by the ALA Library Research Round Table. VanScoy has been selected for the Support of Dissertation Research award for "Exploring the Meaning of Reference Work for Librarians in Academic Research Libraries." Pattuelli won the Award for Excellence in Published Research for her paper, "Modeling Domain Ontology for Cultural Heritage," published in the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, February 2011.

On May 3 the Connecticut Library Association awarded Maxine Bleiweis, director of Westport (Conn.) Public Library, the Outstanding Librarian award in recognition of her career accomplishments and record of service to both her library and the library profession.

In May Wayne Wiegand, Florida State University F. William Summers Professor of Library and Information Studies Emeritus, was one of 25 to receive a New York Public Library Short Term Fellowship for 2011-2012. He will use it for three weeks this fall to mine the culturally rich and ethnically diverse stories about patron use buried in the archives of the NYPL branch library system for his forthcoming book, This Hallowed Place: A People's History of the American Public Library.

April 14 Barbara Ford, director of the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, received UIUC's Sheth Distinguished Faculty Award for International Achievement recognizing her work in teaching, research, and public service in the international arena.
