Seoud Makram Matta, 83, dean emeritus of the School of Information at Pratt Institute of Technology in New York City, died November 24. Matta’s 1965 dissertation, “The Card Catalog in a Large Research Library: Present Conditions and Future Possibilities in the New York Public Library,” provided a model for automating New York Public Library’s research libraries’ card catalogs. Matta also pro-vided consulting services for governments, libraries, and consortia in the United States and the Middle East, and he established the Seoud M. Matta Endowed Scholarship in Information Technology at Pratt in 2000.
