Harry R. Skallerup, 92, director of libraries at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Boca Raton for 15 years until retiring in 1992, died June 18. As director, he played a key role in the planning and construction of FAU’s S. E. Wimberly Library. Skallerup wrote many articles and papers as well as Books Afloat and Ashore: A History of Books, Libraries, and Reading Among Seamen During the Age of Sail (Archon Books, 197 4). He had previously worked as librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and the University of Iowa in Iowa City, and as associate director at the US Naval Academy Library in Annapolis.
