Kay Vandergrift, 73, professor and dean emerita at the Rutgers University Library and Information Science Department in New Brunswick, New Jersey, died July 1. At Rutgers, she established the undergraduate program in Information Technology and Informatics. She received the Teaching Excellence Award from the Association for Library and Information Science Education, the Rutgers Warren I. Susman Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Educational Press Association Award for Excellence in Educational Journalism. She also created an influential website on children's literature. Prior to joining Rutgers, she had taught at Columbia University, Barnard College, Queens College (all in New York City), and other schools in the United States and Canada.
