US Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (D-Calif.) and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) wrote to the Big Five book publishing houses—Penguin Random House, Hachette, HarperCollins, Simon and Schuster, and Macmillan—for answers regarding their contracts on ebooks with libraries. The exorbitant costs and burdensome restrictions of these ebook contracts are draining resources from many local libraries. Eshoo and Wyden requested answers from publishers by October 7.
