On October 18 Brooklyn Public Library announced the eight works shortlisted for fiction/poetry and nonfiction for the 2021 Brooklyn Public Library Literary Prize. This year’s finalists challenge readers with new perspectives on race, gender, relationships, and the immigrant experience. The fiction/poetry list includes The Wild Fox of Yemen, Libertie, Luster, and Detransition, Baby. The nonfiction list includes How We Show Up: Reclaiming Family, Friendship, and Community; Pedro’s Theory: Reimagining the Promised Land; The Disordered Cosmos: A Journey into Dark Matter, Spacetime, and Dreams Deferred; and New Yorkers: A City and Its People in Our Time.
