Alma Dawson, professor at Louisiana State University’s School of Library and Information Science in Baton Rouge, received the Louisiana Library Association’s Meritorious Service Award. She recently served as director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services–funded Project Recovery, a collaboration between LSU’s SLIS and its partner libraries and organizations. Under the project, 30 new librarians were recruited and trained for employment in Southern Louisiana libraries that were suffering staffing shortages because of damage caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
