ProQuest marketing consultant Beth Dempsey told American Libraries today that the company had devised an interesting way for its employees to share library love during National Library Week.
"As part of our National Library Week festivities," the company's website says, "ProQuest employees recalled their fondest library memory, experience, or book, and we’re sharing them. Yes, there are hundreds of reasons ProQuest loves libraries!"
They received hundreds of responses from all over the world. A typical example:
"What I remember the most about going to the Public Library when I was a little girl was how the Library was an escape for me from the real world. I would get lost there for hours and wind up checking out the limit. Beverly Cleary, Nancy Drew, Little House on the Prairie, Hardy Boys, and the list goes on and on. To this day the Library and Books are an escape from reality for me. It is wonderful to know that at any given moment I can walk into a Library, find a good fiction book, check it out for 2 weeks, and get lost in the story and forget reality for a while. Nothing like curling up on the couch with a good book, blanket, and coffee."
