Jean Wenger Scherr, 97, former librarian for Columbus (Ohio) Public Library, the Ohio State University Libraries in Columbus, and Ball State University Libraries in Muncie, Indiana, died July 6. Scherr also served as associate professor of library science and head of the processing division at Ball State, and as a cataloger for the State Library of Ohio in Columbus.

Caroline Grabo Moyer, 92, former head of reference at the St. Louis County (Mo.) Library and later a reference librarian at Fairfax County (Va.) Library, died August 18.

Bernadette G. Callery, 64, librarian at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, died on July 27. Callery earned her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences in 2002 and joined the school’s faculty in 2008.

Virginia Lee Close, 91, former head reference librarian at Dartmouth College Library in Hanover, New Hampshire, died November 1. She began her career at Dartmouth in 1945, serving until retirement in 1993. She was also bibliographer and editor of Dartmouth College Library Bulletin.

Kristin Weltzheimer, 63, died November 29. She worked as a librarian at Westchester (N.Y.) Community College, State University of New York at Purchase, and the Ossining (N.Y.) Public Library. She also served as director of the Somers Library in Katonah, New York, and the Warner Library in Tarrytown, New York.

Barbara Ann Schmitt Webb, 66, retired assistant director of electronic resources and technology at Montgomery County (Md.) Public Libraries, died November 10.

Sandra Van Wert, 64, former director of Homer (Mich.) Public Library from 1994 to 2010, died November 22.

Robert North Jr., 102, assistant deputy director of the Buffalo and Erie County (N.Y.) Public Library until 1973, died November 15 after a brief illness.

Frances Tompson Rutter, 92, cofounder and publisher of the Shoe String Press, Inc., died September 13.

Susan A. Matson, 74, former serials cataloger at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and former trainer for the Illinois Statewide Online Catalog, died October 9.

Elizabeth Guiser, 87, former New York publishing executive and leader in publishing education, died October 8. She served as senior vice president of the book division for the R. R. Bowker Company and then senior vice president of business development for Gale Research Company of Detroit, Michigan, serving that company subsequently as a consultant. In 1976 she was one of the founders of the University of Denver Publishing Institute, an annual four-week immersion that she directed each summer until her retirement at the end of 2007. In 1988 she was inducted into the Publishing Hall of Fame.

Harris Clark McClaskey, 81, who previously served at Renton (Wash.) Public Library for five years and Washington State Library for eight years, died September 21. He also taught as a professor of library science at the University of Minnesota, where he mentored students for work in public and medical libraries.
