John (Jack) Coll, 78, former librarian at San Francisco Public Library, died May 6. He worked at SFPL’s main, North Beach, Merced, and Richmond branches.

Dorothy Helen Austin Bowes, 85, former film librarian at Boces Steuben-Allengany School District Library in Hornell, New York, died April 25.

Harold F. Smith, 88, former archivist and director of Park College Library in Parkville, Missouri, died February 17 after as a result of Alzheimer's Disease. He was also active in ALA's Reference and User Services Association.

American Libraries recently learned that Joseph E. Ryus, an ALA member for 69 years, died in November 2011, just as he received his Life Membership renewal card in the mail. His personal set of 29 books of cataloging are now located at the University of California at Berkeley's Bancroft Library.

Kim Kathryn Pistey, 59, school librarian at JX Wilson School in Santa Rosa, California, musician, and artist, died March 16 from breast cancer.

Arnold Hyman, librarian at New York Public Library for four decades, died March 3, three days after being struck by a car.

Virginia Alexander Gex, librarian at St. Stanislaus Catholic School for Boys in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi for 30 years, died March 5.

Willye Dennis, 85, retired librarian, civil rights pioneer, and state lawmaker, died March 4. She led the Jacksonville, Florida, NAACP chapter for a decade and served two terms in the Florida House of Representatives

Ellen Wohlford, 93, former school librarian for Herron Rural School and Savannah R-3 in Missouri, died February 8.

Charles M. Willett, 80, former librarian of acquisitions and collection management at Harvard College Library in Boston, State University of New York/Buffalo Libraries, and University of Florida Libraries in Gainesville, died February 5. In 1991 he organized Crises Press to promote alternative books and magazines and, in 1993, co-founded the Civic Media Center, an alternative library, reading room and infoshop. Willett was founding editor and publisher of the quarterly publication Counterpoise: For Social Responsibility, Liberty and Dissent

Therese C. White, 86, retired assistant librarian at Assumption College and Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts, died March 3.

Rita Michelle Storie, 35, part-time librarian at Pinckney (Mich.) Community Schools, died March 8 when her van collided with a school bus.
