ALA’s 2022 Annual Conference and Exhibition concluded June 28 in Washington, D.C. For the first time since 2019, ALA speakers took the stage to present new books and ideas in person. Opening General Session speaker FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel opened the conference June 24 with a discussion on the digital divide. Other conference speakers included debut authors and actors John Cho and Tiffany Haddish on how their upbringing inspired their writings, children’s horror writer R. L. Stine on balancing humor and horror, Celeste Ng on how her new novel parallels today’s world, journalist Maria Hinojosa (pictured) on the profound responsibility of being messengers of information, and cocreator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series Kevin Eastman on discovering comics as a form of storytelling.
